Wedding plagued by venue concerns, a success at Regents' Glen
The leaves overhead were only starting to yellow on the perfect fall day Zachary and Julie Perchinski, née Teegardin, got married.
"I thought a love like ours didn't exist but in fairy tales," Julie said during her vows, and for a couple months preceding the event, it seemed as though their wedding day would turn out to be anything but a fairy tale.
Regents' Glen Country Club, which owns her wedding venue, just recently posted signs it had closed, following financial woes, but she was told not to panic.
Just an hour before the 4:30 p.m. ceremony Sunday, the Westminster, Md. woman was glowing in her wedding dress and joking and laughing with her mother and her bridesmaids in a dressing room at the club's Box Hill Mansion in Spring Garden Township. The chaos and stress of the last two months was finally over, and she was happy to have her day.
The manicured garden and grounds of the Box Hill Mansion, built in 1929, is the centerpiece of the Regents' Glen Country Club and golf course and upscale gated community.
Financial problems, including late or unpaid payroll and thousands of dollars in back taxes, have plagued the facility recently.
The financial revelations added more chaos to the already stressful planning of a wedding. But, against all odds, the Perchinski wedding went off without a hitch.
Debbie Teegardin, Julie's mother, said the caterers contracted by Regents' Glen made Saturday night's pre-wedding dinner wonderful.
On Sunday, the grounds were clean, and the organizers were buzzing with efficiency. The flower girl dropped autumn leaves on the ground, and the maid of honor handed over the golden wedding rings locked into the service handcuffs used by the groom, a police officer.
About the only thing that didn't come through for Julie Perchinski Sunday were her beloved Baltimore Ravens, which fell at home to the Cleveland Browns 33-30.
